Just like I say every time I talk about PSP's, I'm not into all the LED's and such, I like it when it looks stock and people have to do a double take to even notice that something was done to it.

As of right now I have ordered the Parts I need:
Second Nub
Razor-X

I have also bought the supplies to make some plastic molds! I know finally! I'm going to be molding my own version of the Second Nub!

For my first try the only thing I'm going to be doing is making molds for the two parts I need from the Second Nub and cast them in white plastic. But, down the road I will be making parts for my very own Nub I'm hoping to produce. (So stay tuned!)

So in the end, all Jumbo and I are doing is adding a Second Nub to it and setting the USB to always charge. But some things that are going to make this special are that the actual second nub parts are going to be white plastic and to fill the hole on where the AC charger port was I'm going to be doin' a littl' sumthin' sumthin' ;)

Stay tuned and watch the progress on this PSP unfold!
Hope everyone had a good new year!
-Tim

The sale reports are in!

I have been talking smack about the PSP-GO ever since I heard about it, but I said I would eat my words if the PSP-GO sells well...

Here are the sale figures (Japan) for the PSP 2000, 3000 and GO:

PSP-2000
First Day = 130,000
First Week = 250,702
Source:
ShackNews

PSP-3000
First Week = 141,270
Source:
GamePRO

PSP-Go
First Day = 28,275
First Week = 29,109
Second Week = 13,992
Sources:
IGN
TheSixthAxis

As you can see (no surprise to me) the PSP-GO sales SUCKED! I even put in the second week of sales for the PSP-GO and the number of units sold was cut more than half! For fuck sake Sony! What do we have to do to show you what we want out of a portable gaming device?!? I have a website, YouTube video, and built a damn prototype of what you SHOULD BE BUILDING, but I don’t think you have gotten the message! What do we have to do so you will bring what we want to the plate? I will ship you my modded PSP, I will come to your office building, I will go to your production factory if it would help!

Ahg, I’m just tired of this and wish Sony would stop burning there handheld to the grown.

On other news,
I think the PSP-GO is temp-hacked.
Here is a YouTube video of Team Typhoon showing his PSP-Go with CFW

Take it or leave it, it’s a pretty good fake if it isn’t real.

Lastly,
MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS IN WHEN YOU EMAIL ME.

I have a handful of people that emailed me without putting there correct email address in and I CAN NOT email you back. If you emailed me more than 2 weeks ago and your thinking “ah, what a douche”, it might be because you didn’t type your email address correctly. If you emailed me within a week then I’m getting to them and will email you back soon. I get a lot of emails and it takes me a while to get threw them.

91% said there's no way in hell you'll buy a PSP Go

Ah,
Failure Sony, its what I thrive on.

Probably like every geek I browse google news for topics I'm interested in. Despite bloggers that are blatantly getting paid by Sony to say good things about the PSP-GO there are PLENTY of bloggers out there, like me, that rip the shinny handheld apart.

I was browsing the internet and I fell upon this article from Arstechnica.com

"The PSP Go is having a rough time in the press, but the system has its defenders. We asked you: will you be buying a PSP Go? How much of a selling point is the size? Ninety-one percent of you said there's no way in hell you'll buy a PSP Go."
If you want to cast your vote on the subject go to this URL:
Poll Technica: will you buy a PSP Go? Was the PSP too big?

I have had some backlashes from some PSP-GO owners that say "...its exactly what I wanted." Well good for you! but as you can see the other 91% hate the PSP-GO.

Ahh, Sony, That is just music to my ears. So do you SEE what everyone is thinking about your product? Did you realise that my YouTube video has had almost 80,000 views in a little over 2 weeks? Did you see my face plastered on just about EVERY mainstream gadget/hacking website?

Maybe, just maybe Sony, you have created a horrible product. But, 3% of voters on that poll said "Already have one", so way to go Sony! You definitely reached your target audience!

I should step back a little, no Sony's sales figures haven't released for the PSP-GO yet, but it is not looking good for Sony at the moment.

Feel free to discuss/email/comment.

Email Tab - Up and Working!

Alright, I hope this helps some people email the right account when asking PSP Questions. I kept getting PSP questions in my Graphic Design Email Address, SO now I have an Email Tab on my webpage.

If you look on the lower left side of the screen there is a Tab that says "Email Me!" Click that and voilà a pop up Email forum appears. Fill it out (PLEASE include your email, if you don't I won't know where to send the reply), Enter the CAPTCHA (I know, I fucking hate CAPTCHA's just as much as the next guy, but until someone figures out another way to deter spam we have to have one), then click the "Submit" button. If all works out you will get a "Thanks!" page, if not then you will get a CAPTCHA error and have to - Right Click > Back to try again.

P.S. if you use SAFARI or CHROME you have to refresh the CAPTCHA after going back or it wont work.

Also, I have the "Email Me!" tab 90% cross browsed. it works 100% in Firefox, Safari, and Opera. As of right now if you are using IE, instead of making a pop-up it just acts as a link and opens it in browser. I will fix this, but since it is 5 in the morning I'm going to get some sleep.

Side note - If you are using IE this must be your first time on the internet, go here - Get Firefox! and get a real browser.

WTF?!?! Your Email tab doesn't work!

Yes.
I know.
I'm working on it.

Email me here about PSP Questions:
JoblessPunkDESIGNSpsp [at] gmail [dot] com

I ment to add it before I published the page, but I didn't really know what I wanted to happen when you click on it. I didn't want it to display the email forum inside the page, and I don't really want it to overlay like the pictures. I wanted something that you could multi-task and wouldn't stop the video from playing/change the page/etc. I found something that fits, but I still need to work on it. Whats going to happen when you push the "Email Me!" tab is a in-page pop up will appear. You will be able to drag it to where ever you want on the page and close it. I MIGHT not do that because I don't have a lot of room on my page. with my big screen I have plenty of room to mess around with, but with people with 13in or smaller the email forum would cover up have the page anyways....

So I'm still flip flopping between an in-page pop-up or an out of page pop up.

Anyways,
No real PSP news, I know I have some emails to get to and I'm sorry I'm lagging on that, I'll get to them ASAP.

UPDATE:
I my email tab working now, I still need to fine tune the look/size but it actually works.

Sony, Listen - You are doing it WRONG.

I posted this at PSP-Hacks.com, but I really wrote it as a blog:

I really do not like the PSP-GO, I understand what Sony is doing and I do not like it. In the big, big picture any company that deals with digital media that doesn’t have their own take on Apples “App store” is likely to fail in the near future, or at least that is what everyone is thinking. Instead of Sony just saying “Hey, look we have our very own store, just like Apple!” Sony is using the PSP-GO to push their PSN into the public’s eye. Just look at how Sony has been advertising the PSP-GO, everything surrounding the GO is all about the PSN, and not how this is a “revolutionary handheld.”

I was a stupid consumer and assumed that the PSP-GO would have special access to the “Minis”, or at least that is the way Sony wants everyone to think. But it does not, anyone with any version of PSP can access the same amount of the PSN. Has anyone played the Minis? Especially the Minis game “Hero of Sparta”? I own an iPhone and a PSP, so I was happy to test both back to back and try to understand what Sony is doing.

I have downloaded many games on the iPhone and I have to say the iPhone/iTouch is not in the same league as the PSP, it’s lower. Yes the graphics of the iPhone/iTouch are nice, and the touch screen is very touchable, but I have to say the games are very shallow and without actual joysticks or buttons the iPhone/iTouch falls flat. When I heard about “Hero of Sparta” being ported to the PSP I was excited to try it out with REAL buttons. But, I was really, really disappointed. Yes, the game was better with actual buttons, but the PSP is WAY better than this. What the hell is Sony doing? Way is Sony are taking a wonderful handheld that can play huge titles, long games with great stories and bringing it down to Apples level?

Sony is trying to get their own “niche” in the same market that Apple has, but they should really keep their nose out of it. Just look at the other companies that are trying to do the same, especially Microsoft with the Zune. Who the hell cares or owns a Zune? Yes they look really nice, but if I had to pick between an iPhone/iTouch or a Zune, Apple would win. That’s how the majority of people think, yeah the Zune looks better on paper, but Apple has such a huge backing that no matter what anyone says Apple will win. So why Sony is trying to put their head into Apples business makes no sense to me. Yes, you might get some trickles of money but not enough to build a new handheld for that demographic.

What Sony SHOULD be doing is building is something BETTER than the competition instead of copying it. Build something that knocks the socks off of everyone else in YOUR slice of the pie.

So what lacks on the iPhone/iTouch if you use it as a gaming device?
Buttons

No matter what Apple does, they will never add a Joystick to the iPhone/iTouch, so build off of that! Don't make them smaller and cramped, listen to what the user wants.

What about the other side, Nintendo.
What are they lacking?
Graphics

So INSTEAD of making your screen smaller, make it better! Bring your resolution up or something to show the mass public; “here is what my competition is doing, but look at what I’m bringing to the table!”

Also, I’ve read that “Sony’s sales are up 300% on the PSN”
Well that is like calling the kettle black.
So Sony, you build a handheld that the ONLY way for people to get content on it is threw the PSN… and your surprised that your sales went up on the PSN???

I have gone to my local Gamestop/Best Buy and I have to say I can tell that they are not pleased with Sony and the PSP-GO. I went to 2 Gamestops and 1 Best Buy and none of them had the handheld out so you could try it out. Also, before the release neither stores here made a big “who ha” about the PSP-GO coming out, and to top it off now that it is out, you have to know about it or you will not be able to find it in the store.

Sony, you need to do something quick before you destroy what you have built. The PSP is a great handheld and I’ll keep my 2000 until I die, but I would really love it if you actually listened to the gamer, and add what we want. Bring a second Joystick; make a downloadable program so you can map the buttons, adjust the sensitivity per-game and cross platform old and upcoming games; bring a camera to the table, and maybe some basic touch features. Make the PSP better; don’t use it as an ad campaign. We all love the PSP and we don’t want to see it go to the way side.

Also,
I truly believe that even though people are tight with their money right now, people don’t mind spending good money on good products.

Sony needs to understand that the Gamer is who THEY should be working for and not the other way around.

Someone emailed me asking:
"...I wanted to ask what sort of strategy you had for bring this "to the masses" and what kinds of partnerships are you looking for."

I thought it was a very good question that probably a lot of you are wondering. So here is my reply. I hope this answers all those questions.

"As for bringing this to the community this is my thought:
Yes, I know I tell people at the end of my video to "check out my worklog and you can do this to"; and that's not a very good business plan. But, I don't want to be shady and hide things from people. The mass public is smart, and will always try to find out how they can 1.) Get it cheap or free; and 2.) Do it there self. Instead of making it harder for people, I'm just laying all the information out on the table.

"Here's the info, here's how to do it, but... If you use my cases, and my plug-and-play extensions then your life will be a lot easier."

This is where my business comes into play. If you or anyone checks out my worklog you will notice that it is REALLY HARD to produce a PSP like this from hand. A lot of trial and error, a lot of time, and a lot of skill is required. My idea is that everyone that's interested in PSP's probably owns one or two of them. So, with the base model in everyone's hand I will build off of that. What I will like to bring to the plate is my own Faceplates/UMD doors/Backplates along with "Plug and Play" extensions. So that anyone with a PSP and a screw driver can take the stock Faceplate/UMD door/Backplate off and replace it with my own version. These replacements will be done by plastic injected molds and will look just like Sony's but with all my mods done to them. As for the "Plug and Play" I want to have little kits made for each extension. If you were to do this manually you have to take small wire and solder it to really small parts, and that's a pain. My idea is to make kind of "clips" that clip on the section of the motherboard that you would normally solder to.

So in the end any PSP owner could buy my version of the PSP case with my "Plug and Play" extensions, take the 5 screws out of the PSP that holds it together, "clip" on the extensions, swap Sony's PSP case with my version of the case and screw back in the 5 screws. It will be very easy for anyone to do, I might even offer the correct size screwdriver so the customer just needs there PSP and no more than 30 minutes.

As for partnerships I need anyone and everyone that can help. If you can help me financially, technically, factory-runs, or any skills that will help me along the way will be welcomed. The PSP I show in the video is just a Prototype in the big scheme of things. I'm showing the public "look, it can be done, don't listen to Sony's bullshit." It really saddens me at what Sony is doing with the PSP. It is a great hand held and it has so much potential, but they are destroying what they have made. I know that everyone in the PSP community has been begging Sony to add a second nub, but they don't listen. When the PSP-3000 came out I was really disappointed. Who the hell voted to add a mic on the PSP but no camera? That’s like saying "here's tires but you don't get a car". Then when the PSP-GO was announced I was even more upset. No one ever wanted anything like what they have announced. The closest thing I saw was that some people wanted the screen on a hinge so you could close it and your screen wouldn't get scratched.

I'm really glad my video is getting so much attention — good and bad — so just maybe, Sony will listen to what the customers want and stop building products for people that need "the newest thing out right now." I bet that if Sony built what I just did their stocks would soar, there public appearance would go up, and the amount of games being purchase would skyrocket. Sony needs to understand that the Gamer is who they should be working for and not the other way around."

Say NO to the PSP GO - Part 2: Thank you!

First off, I want to thank all the websites that are broadcasting my video.

Here’s a list I got with a quick Google search:
PSP-Hacks.com
N4G
QJ.net
Spike
HackaDay.com
Engadet.com
PSP - ITA

If you are hosting my information and I don’t have you on my list, first, thank you! second, if would like me to add you to this list please email me at:
JoblessPunkDESIGNSpsp [at] gmail [dot] com

I would also like to thank everyone that has watched my video and/or commented it! I have read them all, the good the bad and the stupid. But, why are there not more “photoshoped.” Comments?!? Come on, is this the internet or not?? Lol, also I’m so happy to see that there are a huge amount of people that want this as much as I do. I’ve been answering emails all day and I still have more to go through! So thank you, thank you, and thank you. I’m hoping we make a big enough wave that Sony , maybe, just maybe will see what everyone has been wanting….and, if my website gets deleted and my videos are taken down you can come to the conclusion that Sony got a hold of me and beat me to death with a PSP-Go ;)

I would also like to point out something that kinda sucks.
A lot of people don’t seem to see what I’m trying to do. Yes, I hear all of you that say “OMG this has been done before! Why is he acting like he came up with them?!?”
First off, if anyone has actually dug a little deeper under the surface you will see my worklog. I credit and thank everyone that helped me build my JP Edition PSP. I make sure that everyone that deserves credit gets it, I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes and I’m not trying to. The only thing that I want is to show the mass public is that 1.) This can be done, so don’t buy into Sony’s bullshit, and 2.) That I want to bring all these cool mods to the mass public.

Thank you everyone and I hope to have some news about actually mass producing something soon.

What I'm striving for: Say NO to the PSP GO

Hello!
So just a little info to fill everyone in.
What I've done is basically a prototype of what can be done. What I would REALLY like is if a few of us modders get together and get some premodded faceplates/backplates/umd doors molded in plastic and mass produced. I'm also wanting a "plug and play" version of the camera/dual nub and in the future a rumble feature. So in the end ANYONE with a PSP and a screw driver could just take there stock PSP faceplate off and swap it out with our premodded case and add "plug and play" extensions. That's what I'm striving for, I my head I'm thinking and hoping is "well Sony, if you are not going to bring what the customer wants to the plate then I will". But, we will all see how this pans out in the community, if more people want this and we get a big backing then I will do everything in my power to make sure it is brought to the plate.

YES I know there are MANY PSP's out there that have tons of LED's and more bells and whistles then mine, but that is not what I was going for or what everyone has been asking since the first gen. IF anyone viewed my link or know about my worklog at ACIDMODS.com then you would know I was going for a "Stock look". Also! in my worklog and this website I give credit to everyone that helped me along the way. If I used your tutorial then I gave you credit, if you helped me with modding, then I gave you credit, if you helped me with video, then I gave you credit. I really hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by linking your tutorial to my webpage, if I am please email me and I will take it off.

Just to fill everyone in:
I'm a Graphic Designer / Web Designer.
I also do PSP Modding ON THE SIDE.

I designed this website it from top to bottom, everything you see I did and coded and designed. The only thing I didn't do was the Video, Video Editing, and the motion graphics were done by others.

Also,
www.joblesspunkdesigns.com
is my Freelance Graphic Design Business, that part of my website is VERY OLD. It was built wit tables and huge images, it sucks. To check out my actual skills as a Web Designer check out the coding on:
www.joblesspunkdesigns.com/psp

What I really want to show in this video and this website is what Sony should be producing instead of the PSP-GO.

Lets compare:

JP PSP:
Second Nub

PSP-GO:
One Nub

JP PSP:
Camera/Video Camera
It shoots at:
480x272 pixels @ still
640x480 pixels @ still
1280x960 pixels @ still
480x272 pixels @ 30 frame/s video

PSP-GO:
No Camera (Come on Sony, the DS and iPhone have a camera, BOTH your competitions and you done have one?!?)

JP PSP:
32GB

PSP-GO:
16GB STOCK (if you add a 16GB Sony Memory card you can have 32GB)

JP PSP:
4.3 inch, 16:9 full transparent type

PSP GO:
3.8 inch, 16:9 full transparent type

I hope everyone understands ahm, Mitochondria from pspmod.com, ahm... sorry I had something in my throat, that I know a few of these mods have been done before, and I have gave the creators credit in my worklog, but what I want to do is bring all these cool mods to the mass public.

JoblessPunk DESIGNS™ is proud to present: Sony PSP Slim 2000 JP Edition

Finally its up and broadcast to the world!
Feel free to browse this website, it shows off my Sony PSP Slim 2000 JP Edition, but it also has great information for modding your own PSP!

So, I just rolled out my PSP Slim.
This is WHAT Sony should be releasing instead of the PSP-Go.
